Founded a year ago to stimulate rail traffic between Pembroke and Ottawa including the Pontiac region of western Quebec, the group Transport Pontiac-Renfrew is lobbying hard to stop Canadian National Railways from abandoning service over its line between Ottawa and Pembroke, Ontario. The line, formerly Canadian National's Beachburg Subdivision and at one time part of CN's transcontinental line between Montreal and Sudbury via Algonquin Park, was in the hands of the Ottawa Central Railway, a division of the former Quebec Railway Corporation for more than a decade until it was recently sold back to Canadian National as part of a larger deal that saw CN re-acquiring several of its former holdings in eastern Canada from the QCR.
