Today's article in the Ottawa Sun suggests that good news is in order for the revival of the steam train.
With the federal government now on board, let's hope that all the necessary permitting has taken place so that the necessary restoration work can take place before winter sets in and in a timely manner that will allow the train's operators to launch their 2009 marketing campaign.
We may be looking at November but tourist operators are already focussed on packages for 2009. Momentum has to be created; old alliances renewed and new opportunities sought out. Will the decline in both the dollar and fuel prices stimulate tourist traffic from south of the border?Â
How long will it be before a concerted marketing campaign can get underway. What work will be required in addition to the previously=identified 'heavy lifting' to get the track back in operating condition? Crossing circuits require attention; crossings may require re-alignment; ditches will need to be unplugged, a general mowing job will be required on the right of way.Â
Of ocurse, all of the above is predicated upon repairs to the 'land slip' and the other areas that have been identified.
A timely start is crucial. Â
